Administering of Oaths and Notarial duties

The Registrar, Deputy Registrars and Assistant Registrar perform duties as Notaries Public in and for the Island as well as assessing the Stamp Duty to be paid on certain documents.

For the Notarizing of a document you need:

  • The original document
  • Identification card or some valid form of identification.

The following Postage Stamps must be produced:

  • One (1) $10.00 stamp for each document

The cost is as follows:

  • Twenty ($20.00) dollars cash for affixing each Notarial Seal on each document
  • Five ($5.00) dollars cash for marking each exhibit.

There are instances in which the Registrar may have to prepare the Notarial Certificate.

The requirements for this is as follows:

  • One (1) $10.00 postage stamp
  • Fifty ($50.00) dollars cash for preparing certificate and affixing Notarial Seal
  • Five ($5.00) for marking each exhibit.

 

Assessment of Stamp Duty

  • Deed of Covenant the stamp duty is:     1/4 of 1%

 

Stamp duty is calculated as follows:

        Amount of Money  x  number of years   x .01                                               4

                              

Worked example:   $500.00 for 3 years

              500.00 x 3 x .01     = $3.75 stamp duty                                                                       4

 

§         Power of Attorney

            Under Seal - Stamp Duty is twenty-five dollars ($25.00).

Not under Seal - Stamp Duty is Ten dollars ($10.00)

 

§         An Agreement:

Under Seal - Stamp Duty is fifty dollars ($50.00)

Not under Seal - Stamp Duty is Two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50)

 

§         Foreclosure Mortgage Deed

Stamp Duty is six dollars ($6.00) for every one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) OR three dollars ($3.00) for every five hundred dollars ($500.00) or part thereof.
