| This database contains reported and unreported decisions of the Supreme
Court of Barbados. The Supreme Court of Barbados is established under
Section 80 of the Constitution of Barbados and consists of the Court of
Appeal and the High Court.
Prior to 1958 the Courts exercising jurisdiction in Barbados were, The Courts of Common Pleas; The Court of Chancery; The Court of Ordinary; The Colonial Court of Vice-Admiralty; a Court of Vice-Admiralty Sessions; the Courts of Grand Sessions, of Oyer and Terminer and General Gaol Delivery and General Sessions of Peace; the Court of Error; the Court of Escheat; the Court of Divorce and Matrimonial Causes and the Assistant Court of Appeal. This database which is now under construction is a joint effort by the Library staff of the Attorney General's Law Library and the Supreme Court Law Library. The Data Processing Department is providing the technical assistance. When completed the database will contain cases decided in the Courts from 1948, cases relating to Barbados as reported in the English law reports and certain cases argued and determined in the Local Courts as reported in the Barbados Law Reports Volume 1 1694 - 1893. Privy Council decisions will also be included. The cases reported in the Barbados Law Reports contain headnotes. Headnotes
are not provided for the unreported cases. |
